WHY TEC DE MONTERREY CREATES AN INNOVATION HUB IN CHINA?
According to the OECD and according to the Global Innovation Index 2018, China ranks 17th. in the world ranking in innovation, as well as the nation with the highest growth in science and technology investment in recent years. According to the figures of the World Bank, the country invests 2.11% of its Gross Domestic Product in Research and Development.
THE JIANGGAN DISTRIC
Jianggan is located in Hangzhou City, capital of Zhejiang Province. It is one of the oldest urban districts of the city, located in its eastern side by the Qiantang River. With an area of 210 km2 and a population of 400 thousand inhabitants, it is the most strategic area of the city, being the financial and political heart of Hangzhou. In 2016, the Jianggan District hosted the G20 Summit, and prior to that date, it had undergone an accelerated process of modernization and urban renewal. Since then, Jianggan has established itself as the spearhead of the “New Hangzhou”, becoming the administrative, cultural and economic center of the area. In 2017, its fiscal income was more than 2 MMDD, an increase of almost 12% over the previous year. In addition, expenditures on investments in infrastructure and support to companies grew by 20% compared to 2016.
The Jianggan government has taken as a priority the attraction and management of talent in high-quality technological projects. In recent years, Jianggan has proclaimed a series of incentives focused on this area, highlighting Startup support programs and subsidies of up to 50% of the total investments required. All this added to the support policies for housing and consulting for companies seeking to promote new technologies for the industry of the XXI century. This is how Jianggan offers a highly attractive ecosystem for international talent that wants to establish itself, climb, link with investors and allies, and access the Chinese market and, consequently, the global market.
Nowadays, the Jianggan government has set up representative offices in New York, Sydney and Frankfurt to undertake exploration and promotion work, recruit highly promising companies to work in conjunction with its research and development centers, its investors and its local companies.
